Teen Therapy

Teens today face many pressures and challenges. The adolescent years can be particularly difficult for them as they develop more autonomy and independence from their parents. As a result, it is difficult to know if they are camouflaging pain, feeling hopeless, anxious, or depressed. Teens may not even realize they are struggling.

Teens come to me for a variety of reasons including feeling depressed and anxious, self-harm, trauma symptoms, and social and interpersonal issues as well as conduct disorders. I also offer navigation and support with university preparation and career planning. as well as executive functioning concerns that come with ADHD, and Autism spectrum issues.

My Approach

When it comes to providing therapy for teens, my primary focus is on developing a safe and confidential relationship to foster positive change. Teens can sometimes be reluctant to start counseling, as it may be their first experience in therapy. This is a normal feeling and they usually find that after the first session, they appreciate the space and time to work through their feelings. I provide a safe, judgment-free space for their growth and well-being.

I consider parents to be an integral part of their teen’s treatment and though generally, I keep information shared in sessions private to establish trust with your child, important parenting tips and feedback will be provided to you so that you can support your child’s growth and healing.

I am trained in TF-CBT, CBT, DBT and use Polyvagal Theory techniques to provide an understanding of the connection between the mind, body, and emotions.

I embrace diversity across all relationship statuses/identities, sexual orientations, genders, religions, neurodiversity, and body sizes in my approach to practice.
